Any ISCO agent has the possibility of generating hexavalent chromium when in contact with trivalent chromium present in soil naturally or due to pollution. In sites where ISCO applications have caused low-levels of Cr(VI) to form, the chromium typically returns to the reduced form as the oxidant is depleted and the site returns to background geochemical conditions.
