Background

In Sacramento, California a former dry-cleaning facility released chlorinated solvents (tetrachloroethene and breakdown components) and petroleum based solvents such as Stoddard Solvent which have impacted the soil, soil vapor, and groundwater. Plumes of the various contaminants of concern are commingled onsite. The contamination causes additional concern because the neighboring commercial and residential properties are occupied by a restaurant, senior housing and day-care. This urban and residential area created challenges for treatment because of the busy streets, local businesses, and utility corridors.
