Subsurface contamination from chlorinated solvents posed a direct risk to the indoor air quality at a Renton, Washington property. Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and carbon tetrachloride exceeded the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) risk screening level for indoor air quality. Environmental consultant, Maul Foster Alongi performed a cost analysis of different vapor mitigation and remediation options and found that Retro Coat Vapor Intrusion Coating System would provide an excellent solution at about a third less than other approaches.

Client Spotlight: Richard Desrosiers, Associate Principal and Hydrogeologist at GZA GeoEnvironmental

When it comes to honing one’s expertise within the environmental remediation industry, Richard Desrosiers, Associate Principal and Hydrogeologist at GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., a leading environmental services firm and valued REGENESIS client, continues to excel. As a Connecticut licensed environmental professional and Professional Geologist, Desrosiers has more than 30 years of experience in Geology, Hydrogeology, and project management, and continues to build a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable remediation experts in his field. “I initially started my professional career in the mid-1980s in Massachusetts as a Geologist/Hydrogeologist with an A&E firm,” shares Desrosiers. “At that time my focus was aimed at locating water supply wells and evaluating resources for developing large tracks of land for residential, industrial and commercial development.” He discusses his career path and involvement in complex site remediation in our client spotlight.

A Simple, Long-Term Solution to Mitigate Vapor Risk

The Retro-Coat™ Vapor Intrusion Coating System is a complete product line that consists of chemically resistant materials to properly protect existing structures from the threat of contaminant vapor intrusion. Developed by experienced vapor intrusion specialists specifically for vapor intrusion protection within existing structures, it is resistant to aggressive chlorinated compounds such as TCE, PCE and petroleum hydrocarbons.

Vapor Intrusion Characterization and Management Solutions: The Case for Continuous Monitoring

Vapor Intrusion Characterization and Management Solutions: The Case for Continuous Monitoring

Vapor intrusion is challenging to characterize for a multitude of reasons. For example, many cases involve indoor background sources, preferential subsurface migration pathways, shallow subsurface and indoor concentration dynamics, or limitations associated with manual monitoring. Thanks to technological advances, continuous monitoring platforms are now being used to characterize and monitor vapor intrusion.
