3-D Microemulsion is a 3-stage, controlled-release electron donor material that is comprised of a mixture of ingredients which include: free fatty acids, polylactate esters (similar to what is found in Regenesis’ HRC) and and free lactic acid.  These three components provide the slow, medium, and fast release of electron donor release profiles required to optimize the anaerobic biodegradation of chlorinated contaminants.  The free and esterified fatty acids are the slowest to ferment, the polylactate component provides the intermediate term release, and the free lactate provides the early-stage fast fermentation that occurs immediately following application.
