Combined Treatment of Chlorinated Solvents at an Industrial Site in Belgium

Case study highlights

  • 99.9% reduction in chlorinated solvent concentrations, with contaminants reduced below detection limits
  • Combined S-MicroZVI® and 3-D Microemulsion® treatment addressed source contamination and controlled plume migration
  • Single-event injections delivered sustained remediation performance and supported a No Further Action outcome

An industrial site in Belgium impacted by chlorinated solvents, including PCE, TCE, cis-DCE, and vinyl chloride, required remediation to address persistent source area contamination and prevent further plume migration. A tailored in situ treatment strategy combining S-MicroZVI and 3-D Microemulsion was implemented to accelerate reductive dechlorination and achieve long-term contaminant reduction. Post-treatment monitoring showed a 99.9% reduction in chlorinated solvent concentrations, with contaminants reduced below detection limits and no increase in daughter compounds. The successful application resulted in a No Further Action regulatory status while providing a cost-effective, sustainable remediation solution.
