A low-cost amendment that enhances anaerobic biodegradation of chlorinated solvents by adding specialized dechlorinating microbes.
What is it?
BDI Plus is an enriched microbial consortium containing Dehalococcoides sp. (DHC), capable of completely degrading chlorinated solvents through reductive dechlorination. Delivered in liquid form, it is applied alongside an electron donor to strengthen and sustain microbial activity.
How does it work?
Once injected into the subsurface, BDI Plus boosts the native microbial community with highly active DHC, accelerating the stepwise breakdown of contaminants such as PCE, TCE, DCE, and vinyl chloride into harmless end products like ethene and ethane. It can also target other halogenated compounds, including halomethanes and haloethanes.
Is it right for my site?
BDI Plus is effective at boosting natural microbial populations to complete the dechlorination process more efficiently. Although best applied along with electron donors like AquiFix or 3-D Microemulsion, it can be applied at any stage of a remediation project to efficiently eliminate chlorinated solvents.
