A solid electron donor engineered to be co-injectable with PlumeStop. Its extended-release profile provides a long-lasting source of hydrogen for chlorinated solvent remediation.

Designed to be compatible and co-injectable with PlumeStop

AquiFix is an innovative electron donor designed to be compatible and co-injectable with PlumeStop. AquiFix is formulated with both fast-acting and long-lasting, slow-releasing electron donor materials to drive the biodegradation of chlorinated solvents in the groundwater. This formulation includes a solid phase source of fatty acids and beneficial nutrients to support the dechlorinating microbe population.

What is it?

AquiFix is a solid electron donor engineered to be co-injectable with PlumeStop. Its extended-release profile provides a long-lasting source of hydrogen for chlorinated solvent remediation.

How does it work?

Injected with standard equipment, AquiFix disperses through the aquifer and binds to the matrix. Its organic components establish reducing conditions quickly, while the solid phase releases acids and hydrogen slowly, sustaining anaerobic bioremediation for more than five years without reinjection.

Is it right for my site?

AquiFix is well-suited for sites impacted by chlorinated solvents where long-term treatment is needed. It is most effective when paired with PlumeStop to drive enhanced reductive dechlorination and maintain treatment longevity.

Pilot Study: Demonstration of a First-Ever Novel, Solid, Co-Injectable Donor

A central Michigan facility’s historic PCE/TCE and petroleum spills created a high-flux CVOC plume beneath a neighborhood. Groundwater flows 1–10 ft/day through a coarse sand and gravel esker. AquiFix effectively treated low- to moderate-flux areas, with sustained TOC supporting continued bioremediation of CVOCs entering the barrier.
