Selected Publications
A Cost Comparison of Pump-and-Treat and In Situ Colloidal Activated Carbon for PFAS Plume Management
Authors: Jeremy Birnstingl, John Wilson
This landmark study evaluated remediation options at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base and demonstrated how in situ colloidal activated carbon barriers can significantly reduce remediation costs, energy consumption, and long-term environmental impacts compared to conventional pump-and-treat systems.
Pandora’s PFAS Box: Life Cycle Exposure Considerations of Treatment Options for PFAS in Groundwater
Authors: Linda C. Hall, John T. Wilson, Jeremy G. A. Birnstingl
Published in Remediation Journal, this paper examines the life-cycle implications of PFAS treatment technologies and explores how remediation approaches should be evaluated based on total exposure reduction rather than simply contaminant transfer between media.
Eliminating Risk of Exposure to PFAS in Groundwater: Full-Scale In Situ Remediation with Colloidal Activated Carbon
Authors: Scott Wilson, Jeremy Birnstingl
One of the industry’s early technical papers demonstrating the effectiveness of colloidal activated carbon for PFAS remediation and long-term plume management.
In Situ PFAS Treatment Using Colloidal Activated Carbon: Performance Results from More Than 20 Project Sites
Authors: Scott Wilson, Jeremy Birnstingl
A comprehensive review of field performance data showing successful PFAS concentration reductions and regulatory compliance outcomes across a broad range of remediation projects.
Combining Field Experience with Modelling for Engineering Management of In Situ Activated Carbon Remedial Installations
Authors: Jeremy Birnstingl, Keith Gaskill
This presentation and technical paper highlights the development and application of the PlumeForce™ modeling platform, demonstrating how predictive modeling can improve remedial design, performance tracking, and project optimization.
