Chlorinated compounds remain some of the most frequently encountered and problematic contaminants present in aquifers today. Over several decades, the contaminated land industry has developed a range of in situ technologies to target these contaminants, many of which have been proven in the laboratory, at pilot-scale and are now commonly used for successful full-scale treatment all over the world.
The result is a wide range of techniques and products that can be considered remedial options for each chlorinated solvent impacted site. Choosing the best remediation strategy can therefore provide a challenge, with the most appropriate technology or combination of technologies needing to be determined both by the site-specific conditions and a deep understanding of available remedial options.
In this webinar REGENESIS’ European Technical Service team; Jim Forde, Paola Goria and Kris Maerten, introduce a range of different in situ remedial approaches and discuss where they are most suitable and how they can be combined to optimise treatment.
The in situ approaches discussed include:
- In situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)
- Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination (ERD)
- In situ Chemical Reduction (ISCR)
- Adsorption and Degradation
The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are being considered, plus their suitability for source or plume treatment, barrier and grid applications, contaminant concentration, target levels and flux rates. The critical site data required and design criteria are discussed. Using examples from the hundreds of successful chlorinated solvent remediation projects designed by Jim, Paola and Kris, the team use their combined experience to provide useful technical and practical insights to those considering remedial options for their chlorinated solvent contaminated sites.
