Article: Micron-Scale Colloidal Remedial Fluid Effectively Reduces Contaminant Levels
If your team is responsible for treating petroleum contamination in groundwater from leaking underground storage tanks, you know theses site can create costly and challenging liabilities for site owners. You’ve probably also investigated activated carbon (AC) as a remedial solution. While AC can be found in a wide range of physical forms according to its varied uses, there is typically an optimum AC particle size best-suited for each particular application. For in situ groundwater remediation applications, small-particle AC is preferred because its ability to transport effectively within an aquifer. The AC particles in PetroFix® are 1-2 μm in size, which allows the product to freely flow in an aqueous suspension during low-pressure subsurface injections. Following application, the small particle size also ensures minimal soil pore space blockage, leaving groundwater flow undisturbed. This article in Environmental Science and Engineering Magazine documents a site where PetroFix is being used to effectively remediate petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater at a former bulk petroleum storage facility with leaking UST.
