Case Study | PlumeStop and S-MicroZVI Effectively Treat CVOCs to Expedite Site Closure

This case study reviews an active industrial facility in Southern California where PlumeStop and S-MicroZVI successfully treated CVOC contamination. The combined remedy quickly reduced CVOC concentrations below targets, priming the site for future regulatory closure. The responsible party retained Roux, a leading environmental remediation consultant, to complete the remediation project. Working with REGENESIS, Roux developed a multi‑faceted remedial solution to mitigate the CVOC contamination beneath an active business, successfully overcoming challenging site conditions.

Rising Star Client Spotlight | April McGuire, Senior Engineer at Roux

Environmental remediation continues to evolve as a critical industry which impacts our planet and public health. With a broad array of environmental challenges (and opportunities) that need to be addressed, it is encouraging to see talented and dedicated professionals, such as April McGuire of Roux Associates, a “rising star” in the field of environmental remediation who continually strives to produce results that exceed client expectations. She shares, “Due to the diverse range of clients here at Roux, I manage various types of projects, including remediation, site investigations, environmental justice, vapor intrusion mitigation systems designs, and litigation support. I am also responsible for providing training and mentorship for the junior staff members while supervising their technical development.”

SourceStop case study

Case Study | Sustainable and Low-Cost PFAS Source Treatment

This case study reviews the in situ treatment of PFAS source zones at firefighting training areas on two aviation sites where PFAS-containing AFFF was historically discharged. Both pilot tests demonstrated PFAS soil leachate concentrations reduced by >99% following the source zone treatments. In situ PFAS source treatments using SourceStop immediately halt PFAS plume development and prevent impacts to downgradient receptors. This approach using SourceStop is a sustainable and lower-cost remediation alternative compared to other mechanical and physical PFAS treatment methods.

Article | Colloidal Activated Carbon Solution on Track to Effectively Address PFAS Risk at a Low Cost

Airport Improvement published this article discussing a colloidal activated carbon barrier installed as part of a pilot test at Martha’s Vineyard Airport to demonstrate effective in situ treatment of a PFAS plume. With no pumping required, the in situ approach using colloidal activated carbon avoids long-term power consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and operation & maintenance costs, all factoring into the remedy selection at this site. The early performance results show the barrier has eliminated PFAS from groundwater.

Podcast | ESTCP Project Explores Innovative Method to Solve the PFAS Challenge Using PlumeStop

Don’t miss this recent 20 minute episode of The PFAS Research and Remediation Podcast, produced by Arcadis with funding from the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP). Dr. Paul Hatzinger, Director of the APTIM’s Technology Development Laboratory in Lawrenceville, NJ talks about his ESTCP project ER20-5182, titled “Validation of Colloidal Activated Carbon for Preventing the Migration of PFAS in Groundwater” which looks at using injectable carbon to halt the mobility of PFAS into water sources. The episode was hosted by Dr. Craig Divine, National Technical Expert and Senior Vice President at Arcadis North America.
