For Nick Bentz, Research Associate at REGENESIS, the opportunity to join a company that combines leading-edge research with innovative environmental remediation solutions proved to be the ideal career move. Joining the REGENESIS Research and Development team allows him to leverage his university studies and his keen interest in laboratory research. He begins, “What drew me to REGENESIS was an interest in environmental science and a passion for research. I bring a background as a student researcher working in an atmospheric chemistry lab working on nitric acid production from phenolic constituents of humic acids from soil via FTIR to my new role with the R&D team. It was through my university lab experience that I became interested in both research and environmental science.”

Prior to joining REGENESIS in February, Bentz worked as a Technical Document Writer for a medical firm in Irvine, in their Engineering Product Development division, where he created Good X Practices (GxP) documentation for all their instruments. He continues, “These documents included GxP assessments, User Requirement Specifications, Installation Operation Performance Qualifications, and Installation Operation Performance Qualification Reports.”

To prepare for a career involving the precise formulas and methods of laboratory work, Bentz earned his BS in Chemistry from California State University Fullerton. His efforts also served to ignite a passion for helping to make our planet a better place for future generations. He shares, “I am really looking forward to working alongside my coworkers to help solve problems and provide research for new and interesting solutions. The tests and science involved in environmental remediation are very tactile and satisfying. REGENESIS has a wonderful laboratory which utilizes some of the most cutting- edge instruments and sciences, with the aim of cleaning up the environment.”

“The opportunity to apply environmental research with a great company, such as REGENESIS, with its excellent facilities, and the ability to work on Gas Chromatography, Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry, and High- Performance Liquid Chromatography was the perfect move for my career.”

Outside of his work, Bentz enjoys screening films and board gaming. Prior to the pandemic, he would travel to Los Angeles for special screenings, premiers, events, and Q&As. Board gaming is a hobby he was drawn to as a child, and his interest has escalated over the years. He shares, “As a child my family introduced me to contemporary board games. From there I went on to frequent a local game store in Fullerton called Dice House, which I have been a regular at for over a decade. Upon entering university, I went on to join and then subsequently ran a board game club at Cal State Fullerton. I worked with university conventions, such as TitanCon and the Historical Miniature Gaming Society Convention, as a volunteer and organized wildly popular board game rooms within the conventions. I also worked with a gaming meetup and Popular Culture magazine based in Los Angeles to cross-promote Cal State Fullerton board gaming and their meetups within the university.”

When asked what he is most excited about in being part of the REGENESIS team, he reflects on the company’s outstanding R&D capabilities. He concludes,

“I’m most excited to grow within a fantastic company and become an important part of REGENESIS’ Research and Development team.”

“There are so many products and methods for environmental remediation that are fascinating to learn about. I can’t wait to help develop and improve on these intriguing methods and products.”

REGENESIS is proud to welcome Nick Bentz to the team as Research Associate and appreciates his experience and enthusiasm in working to develop successful remediation outcomes for REGENESIS and its clients.
