Land Science® Vapor Barriers Allow for Successful Brownfield Development in Traverse City, Michigan
Multi-layered Vapor Barrier for New Building Construction
Vapor Intrusion Barriers need to balance two key characteristics, chemical resistance (how well the barrier protects against the chemical of concern) and constructability (the ability to effectively seal all entry pathways in a building). Geo-Seal® is a composite system that creates the ideal blend between constructability and chemical resistance by using both high density polyethylene (HDPE) and spray applied asphalt latex. Ideal for new construction, Geo-Seal® has been accepted by state environmental agencies across the country, the US NAVY, US AIR FORCE, Fortune 500 Companies, and leading environmental consulting firms around the world.

New Vapor Intrusion Guidance from Ohio EPA
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) has developed a memorandum on action levels and response timeframes for sites that are being investigated for vapor intrusion of trichloroethylene (TCE) and other associated chemicals. DERR developed this guidance in consultation with USEPA and uses these risk levels and response times when conducting Ohio EPA lead investigations for the CERCLA and RCRA programs.

99.9% cVOC Reduction at Dry Cleaner Results in “No Further Action” Status
Long-Term, Low-Cost Remediation of Chlorinated Solvents
3-D Microemulsion® is an injectable electron donor optimized for low cost, long-lasting in situ remediation of chlorinated solvents. Its engineered, wide-area subsurface distribution significantly reduces the number of injection points and events required, resulting in time and cost savings. A viable, long-term source of staged-release hydrogen on the order of 2-4 years from a single application, this technology is faster and often lower cost than lengthy natural attenuation approaches.
Accelerated Treatment of Intermediate Compounds
Bio-Dechlor INOCULUM® Plus (BDI Plus) is designed to provide rapid and effective treatment of undesirable anaerobic dechlorination intermediates such as dichloroethene (DCE) and vinyl chloride (VC), and is a low-cost means of enhancing the anaerobic biodegradation process. Once in place, this microbial consortium accelerates the rate of chlorinated contaminant degradation from parent compounds to intermediates like DCE and VC and completely through to harmless end products such as ethene and ethane. It is highly compatible with a range of electron donors.
Achieve Better Results with Design Verification Testing (DVT)
In cases where a site assessment has led to the selection and design of a remediation program involving the subsurface application of fluids (e.g. chemical sorbents, oxidants, reductants, etc.) it pays to verify the assumptions used in the remediation design before implementation of the full remediation program. The DVT (Flux-Zone) Technical Bulletin provides an overview of the process performed by REGENESIS® Technical Services that results in better remediation results and lower project costs.

Carbon Tetrachloride Concentrations Reduced by 99% and Cleanup Goals Achieved Using HRC® on DoD Site
Low-Cost Bioremediation of Chlorinated Solvents
HRC® is an engineered, hydrogen release compound designed specifically for enhanced, in situ anaerobic bioremediation of chlorinated compounds in groundwater or highly saturated soild. HRC® enables enhanced anaerobic biodegradation by adding hydrogen (an electron donor) to groundwater and/or soil to increase the number and vitality of indigenous microorganisms able to perform the naturally occurring process of enhanced reductive dechlorination. Due to its capability of being applied via permanent wells, direct-push, and excavations, this reagent allows for clean, low-cost, non-disruptive application.
PlumeStop® Reduces cVOCs 99.9% in Two Months and Achieves Non-Detect in Nine Months
At a former electronics facility in Indiana, PlumeStop® Liquid Activated Carbon™ was applied in conjunction with the controlled-release electron donor, HRC® to address a chlorinated solvent plume. Within two months, cVOCs were reduced 99.9%, and were at non-detect after nine months. After 18 months of continuous site monitoring, there has been no contaminant rebound. Source area treatment activities are being monitored for closure.
Eliminate Risk and Uncertainty with PlumeStop®
PlumeStop® Liquid Activated Carbon is a fast-acting groundwater remediation reagent which captures and biodegrades a range of contaminants. Upon reagent injection, target contaminants partition out of the aqueous phase and sorb onto the liquid activated carbon matrix, thereby removing mobile contaminants from the immediate risk pathway. Once in place and with contaminants partitioned onto its surface, PlumeStop® is colonized by contaminant-degrading bacteria. The net result is a substantial increase in the rate and extent of contaminant destruction.

When it comes to small business owners who are struggling with contamination at their site, he shares “I try to figure out the least expensive option to clean their site. I figure the least I can do is to give them a solid design to effectively clean their site.”
New Webinar – NGWA Combined Remedies Presentation by Matt Burns of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff
During the NGWA/EPA workshops sponsored by REGENESIS®, Matt Burns, Practice Leader at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, discussed how the combined remedy approach to groundwater remediation optimizes contaminated site cleanup as measured by technical efficacy and sustainability. Regardless of the potential for improving site cleanups, however, there are still obstacles limiting the implementation of combined remedies. These obstacles can often be circumvented by employing multicomponent and multifunctional remedial amendment formulations delivered with a single application. Case studies are presented that demonstrate efficacy of this combined remedies approach.

Now, that has changed completely and I think REGENESIS® has played an important part in this.” Maerten’s role in the environmental market’s education of in situ technologies and implementation is widespread. You can see his influence in the remediation industry firsthand on sites throughout Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, the UK, Scandinavia, and France. In addition to being passionate about solving challenging remediation issues on sites across Europe, Maerten is also an avid cyclist.
Over 26,000 Remediation Projects Worldwide
REGENESIS®’ remediation products have been applied on over 26,000 groundwater and soil remediation projects in 27 countries around the globe. Our solutions-based approach to many of these projects includes remediation design, geochemistry evaluation, reagent applicability and selection, application recommendations, technical oversight and post-application performance review. This has resulted in the successful remediation of contaminated sites across the world. Use the links below to explore site remediation case studies around the world.
PFOS/PFOA and PlumeStop
Two of the most commonly encountered perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), both of which are considered emerging contaminants and potential carcinogens. These contaminants are persistent once in groundwater and do not readily degrade or metabolize. Treatment of these plumes has always been difficult and costly. Until now. REGENESIS® R&D has tested the adsorption efficacy of PlumeStop with PFOA and PFOS, and the results show effective capture of the contaminant plume through adsorption.
