Real-World Business Cases; Where In-Situ Remediation Saved Time & Money

Real-World Business Cases; Where In-Situ Remediation Saved Time & MoneyWhen designing a remedial strategy, decisions are guided by the cost and performance of available technologies. Historically, options for groundwater treatment were limited to long-term and costly mechanical technologies such as pump and treat at many sites. But with new innovations in the environmental field, practitioners now have viable alternatives via in situ remediation that can both reduce costs and improve performance.

Advances in hydrocolloid technology now allow for proven technologies like activated carbon and zero-valent iron to be optimally applied in the subsurface. In addition, diagnostics used for site remediation have evolved. When applied in a practical manner these new diagnostics can, with minimal investment, predict site-specific applicability of an amendment before full-scale application. This ebook presents business case studies where these advanced technologies allowed for in situ remediation to save time and money over conventional pump and treat systems.

Article: Micron-Scale Colloidal Remedial Fluid Effectively Reduces Contaminant Levels

Micron-Scale Colloidal Remedial Fluid Effectively Reduces Contaminant Levels
This article in Environmental Science and Engineering Magazine documents a site where PetroFix® Remediation Fluid is being used to effectively remediate petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater at a former bulk petroleum storage facility with leaking underground storage tanks (UST). PetroFix is is a liquid-carbon suspension amended with soluble electron acceptors. The successful results at this site demonstrate how PetroFix can be applied as a revolutionary new solution  for remediation professionals to quickly and cost-effectively treat petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants at gas station and UST sites. New Guidance on Low-Pressure Direct Push Application of PetroFix to Treat Petroleum

New Guidance on Low-Pressure Direct Push Application of PetroFix to Treat Petroleum

Since PetroFix Remediation Fluid is a liquid-carbon suspension amended with soluble electron acceptors, it flows easily into most aquifers using low-pressure. One of the methods to deliver PetroFix into the subsurface is to inject the material through direct push rods using hydraulic equipment. This approach increases the spreading and mixing of PetroFix into the aquifer. Use the link below to access a set of instructions is specific to the direct push injection of PetroFix.

This video explains the treatment of legacy contamination found in the south of Finland. This forms part of a Government driven project, consisting of 4 different cases in Finland that are contaminated by chlorinated solvents. Nordic Envicon Finland, RGS Nordic and REGENESIS are working together to provide an integrated remediation solution: Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination in the source area to achieve a significant contaminant mass reduction, and In Situ Sorption and Enhanced Biodegradation in the plume area, to protect a drinking water abstraction well.
