ORC Advanced® Pellets are a dust-minimizing, dry application pelletized form of the widely used ORC Advanced controlled-release oxygen compound. They are designed specifically for the treatment of dissolved-phase petroleum hydrocarbons through direct application into excavations, petroleum storage tank pits, trenches and backfill. ORC Advanced Pellets significantly minimize airborne dust associated with the handling and application of dry powders while eliminating the need for mixing equipment and spray-water required for liquid slurry-type applications.
After application into an excavation and upon contact with groundwater, calcium oxy-hydroxide based ORC Advanced Pellets produce a controlled-release of molecular oxygen (up to 15% by weight) for periods of up to 12 months on a single application. Oxygen is required by microorganisms to transform organic contaminants (such as petroleum hydrocarbons) into carbon dioxide, water and microbial cell mass. More importantly, the new and readily available oxygen produced by ORC Advanced Pellets accelerates aerobic biodegradation processes up to 100 times faster than their naturally occurring rates. This provides remediation practitioners with a significantly faster and highly effective means of treating petroleum contaminated areas accessible through excavations, petroleum storage tank pits and trenches.
In addition to oxygen, pellets contain micro-nutrients such as: nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (N,P,K) which may be beneficial to aerobic biodegradation processes. ORC Advanced Pellets are approximately 3-10 mm in size (Figure 1) and should not be used for any type of injection-based applications.
