What is Dibenzo(a,h)anthracene?
Dibenzo(a,h)anthracene is a crystalline, carcinogenic aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of five fused benzene rings, produced by the incomplete combustion of organic matter
Uses
Dibenzo(a,h)anthracene is used only for research purposes to induce tumorigenesis.
Sources & Potential Exposure
Workers in industries that inadvertently produce dibenzo(a,h)anthracene may breathe in mists or have direct skin contact. The general population may be exposed by breathing in air, smoking tobacco products and when eating grilled and smoked meat or contaminated fish. Exposure can occur from handling contaminated soil near waste sites. Blood chemistry effects were noted among coke oven workers inhaling a high concentration of a mixture polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which included dibenzo(a,h)anthracene.
Federal Regulations
EPA has determined that dibenzo(a,h)anthracene is a probable human carcinogen
